The amazing story of a woman who found an abandoned child and decided to keep and raise her for her own. Before you start yawning, let me say that there is some very hard subject matter in this book. The mother took the child, yes, and raised her. But what you find out is how she struggled with that choice and why. Then, when the real parents of the child return to claim her, the mother has to make a deal harder than any most people could imagine. I liked this book fairly well, but it was depressing.
Great dictionary of the Yi language! The first part is sorted for the Yi script characters, with the Latin Yi "Pinyin" alphabet behind it, followed by quite precise IPA including tones, part of speech, Chinese translation and English translations, sometimes even with a short explanation of grammatical things or culture-specific words. The second part contains an index Chinese-Pinyin-YiScript-YiPinyin, the third part is English-YiScript-YiPinyin. In the beginning and end there's some description about the language itself, and quite handy is the YiPinyin-IPA conversion table at the end of the book. You can tell that the book is done by SIL, because they used Gentium as a font, haha! By the way, original price: 68 Yuan.
