Excellent book. His second memoir about Zimbabwe (first was Mukiwa, his childhood). The situation in Zimbabwe is horrible and depressing. Peter's personal experience during the early 2000s just illustrates it personally. What is stunning is that now, in 2011, Zimbabwe is still in the grip of Mugabe. I wonder how on earth the country will ever recover from his wreckage.
John Green creates witty characters who completely capture the reader's adoration. The journeys of Colin, Hassan, and Lindsey are charming and realistic because they act and think exactly like real kids of their age. The novel's original writing style is sustained by the creative use of footnotes and the strange anagrams.
Jaycee is a remarkable young woman.
